"Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country"

Yesterday I talked about my favorite poem. Tonight I will talk about my favorite quote and what it means to me. JFK inaugural address is considered one of the best by historical scholars. I think it is still a calling card for individuals today. As went through Jr high and high school I was constantly told how much volunteering sucked and boring it was. I liked volunteering though, and did it till the age of 17. I still continue to do it but not as much as I would like. As I look around the streets in Chicago I see kids that should be in school walking the streets and acting like thugs. Seeing their potential being wasted due to the fact that they have parents who do not care or teachers that do not care. JFK asked for us what we can do for our country. One way to help our country would to improve our education system. Make teachers accountable for their actions and for how their students perform. But teachers are not the only ones who need to be held accountable. The people who are part of these kids lives need to be held accountable too. A lot of us like to blame the parents; we forget though that kids have uncles and aunts that can just have as big of an impact as their parents can. One group that is missing is US. No not the United States but literally US. What are we doing to help these kids that have been left behind? I know what I am doing. When I see kids walking the street I talk to them and ask them why they are not in school and I tell them about my struggles while trying to touch their lives. It usually does not work but I put in the effort. I also volunteer for a couple of organizations that help tutor students and keep them off the streets. Why do I do this? I do it because I care about our future. I care about the ones who will be leading this country. And I also believe that NO CHILD SHOULD BE LEFT BEHIND. Not that piece of paper bull shit that the United States tried to implement. I truly mean that for a child not to be left behind they need adults to look up to and I do not mean the slut Kim Kardashian or "Winning" Charlie Sheen. Kids need real role models and an ordinary adult giving their time to help a child can be their greatest role model.

Good Night and Good Luck
